On September 25–26, BYD and its premium brand, DENZA, unveiled new models in a coordinated “dual-launch” strategy, strengthening their market presence ahead of the National Day holiday in China.
BYD Introduces Second-Generation Qin PLUS with Enhanced Affordability
On September 25, BYD launched the second-generation Qin PLUS, adding three new variants: the Qin PLUS DM-i 128km Progressive Edition, and the Qin PLUS EV 420km and 510km Progressive Editions. These additions expand the Qin PLUS lineup, reinforcing BYD’s position in the compact sedan segment.
Notably, all Qin PLUS models are available with limited-time discounts during the National Day holiday, with prices starting as low as 69,800 RMB (approximately $9,700 USD). This aggressive pricing targets mainstream families, offering high-quality mobility at an accessible price point.
Qin PLUS: Dominating China’s A-Class Sedan Market
“The Qin PLUS is the undisputed leader in China’s A-class sedan market, with cumulative sales exceeding 1.5 million units. It has claimed the title of best-selling sedan in 2023 and 2024, breaking foreign brand dominance and reshaping the market,” said Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty Network Sales Division, at the launch event.

The addition of the Progressive Edition lowers the entry barrier, allowing more consumers to experience premium driving at a budget-friendly price—a perfect National Day gift for the market.
Overcoming Foreign Brand Dominance
Historically, the A-class sedan market in China has been dominated by foreign brands such as Volkswagen Lavida, Nissan Sylphy, Buick Excelle, and Toyota Corolla. Among domestic brands, only Geely Emgrand and Changan Eado consistently achieved monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units.
Since its debut in March 2021, the Qin PLUS has disrupted this landscape with its “hybrid and electric” strategy and exceptional cost-performance ratio. With the release of Champion and Glorious editions, it has maintained its top position for two consecutive years, earning the title of “King of A-Class Sedans.”
Technological Upgrades and Longer Range
The second-generation Qin PLUS introduces longer-range variants and continuous OTA updates to enhance user experience. For example, the Qin PLUS DM-i 128km Progressive Edition offers sufficient electric range for a week’s commute, effectively functioning as a pure EV for daily use.
Technologically, the NEDC fuel consumption of the second-generation Qin PLUS DM-i has been optimized to 2.69L per 100km in low-electric-range conditions. Lu Tian revealed that this improvement will be rolled out via OTA to all Qin PLUS DM-i models equipped with BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology, reinforcing the industry saying, “In plug-in hybrids, there’s BYD and everyone else.”
New Pure EV Variants to Meet Growing Demand
BYD also introduced two new pure EV variants: the Qin PLUS EV 420km Progressive Edition and the 510km Progressive Edition. As charging infrastructure improves, pure EVs are gaining popularity among young consumers, but few models offer balanced performance and affordability.
The 420km variant is ideal for daily commuting, while the 510km variant extends travel range, enabling weekend getaways and leisure trips.
DENZA Launches Premium Family SUV: DENZA N8L
On September 26, DENZA unveiled the all-new DENZA N8L, a large six-seater SUV, and opened pre-orders with prices ranging from 319,800 to 349,800 RMB (approximately $44,400 to $48,500 USD). Paired with the flagship DENZA N9, the “Twin Star” lineup targets distinct consumer segments, deepening DENZA’s presence in premium markets.
DENZA N8L: Luxury and Safety for Families
Positioned as a “Family Safety Luxury SUV,” the DENZA N8L builds on the safety technology and agile handling of the DENZA N9 while emphasizing spaciousness and luxury. Key features include:
- Electric Seats for All Three Rows: Standard across all seating rows.
- 49 Storage Compartments: Convenient for family travel.
- Expandable Trunk Space: Up to 1,128 liters, accommodating multi-member family trips.

Strategic Dual Launch: Capturing Market Share Before the Holiday
BYD’s simultaneous launch of the affordable Qin PLUS and the premium DENZA N8L demonstrates its dual strategy in the mainstream sedan and luxury SUV segments. This move signals BYD’s ambition to accelerate market share gains ahead of the National Day holiday.
Future Outlook
With its competitive pricing, technological innovation, and expanding product lineup, BYD is solidifying its leadership in China’s automotive market. As the global shift toward electric vehicles accelerates, BYD’s strategies could position it as a key player in the international auto industry.
